"Jared Inspired Me"
|
|
Jared's New
Friends have all
become healthier
by making better
food choices and
becoming more
physically
active. They
have maintained
a healthier
weight by making
healthier food
choices and by
staying as
active as they
can through
everyday
activities, like
riding their
bicycles,
walking,
swimming,
jumping rope,
skating or
playing sports
with friends.
Here is Cody's
story: |

|
|
Cody
Lawler,
13
Ohio
While in
fifth grade,
frustrated
with the
limitations
he faced by
being
overweight
and tired of
kids making
fun of him,
Cody
approached
his parents
with a
decision he
made. Cody
decided to
eat
healthier
(no greasy
fast foods,
smaller
portions and
only one
snack a day
as long as
it was low
in fat) and
get active.
Now, when
people see
photographs
of Cody when
he was
younger,
they can’t
believe it
is the same
person.
Cody
achieved a
healthier
weight by
making
better food
choices and
becoming
more
physically
active.
Cody's
favorite
activities
are
snowboarding,
bike riding
and playing
his guitar.
His favorite
SUBWAY®
submarine
sandwich is
the 6-inch
sweet onion
chicken
teriyaki on
wheat bread.
What does
having a
healthier
life style
mean?
"It's good
just being
able to hang
out with
friends and
do things
that normal
junior high
kids do.
Riding bikes
around town,
going to the
beach, the
pool or just
walking
around. No
kid wants to
be sweaty
and out of
breath
because he
can't keep
up with his
friends in
normal, day
to day
activities.”

"Cody is
able to do
more
physically
and has more
energy,"
says Cody's
mom Marie.
"He has more
self-confidence,
a better
self-esteem
and overall
he just
feels better
about
himself. And
because of
this, he is
more
outgoing and
has more
confidence.
It's nice to
know that
kids aren't
making fun
of him now
because of
his weight.
Seeing his
determination
and success,
we feel like
he can
accomplish
anything he
sets his
mind to do
and the
whole family
is proud of
him."
